A Visit to Borobudur Temple Compounds. UNESCO World Heritage Site:592
Regency of Magelang, Province of Central Java, Indonesia. Buddhist Monument / Pilgrimage.
Drunk a little too much, and booked a trip to climb Krakatua...
The others decided they were ‘templed out’... including my daughter…traitor!
The most visited site in Java - Borobudur.
"Your deeds are repaid by karma..."
"He built Borobudur in a single day..."
Local legend doesn’t recognise this incredible feat, advising that Borobudur was constructed by the ‘Sleeping Man – backed up in myth by a mountain facing the complex that resembled a silhouette of a sleeping man. According to local myths and legends, this man was the real architect and he built Borobudur in a day. He was so exhausted that he’s been sleeping ever since.
We’d got used to being constantly asked to have our photo taken with groups of travellers, families etc. (although why they want our mugs on their photos I have no idea and as you can see I'm no oil painting!) ) and we would always respond with a smile and join their photo. This time, however, I was so disgruntled with their behaviour, I refused! Another lesson required, no doubt.
Perhaps attendants at this beautiful monument might be an idea...
